Born in Argentina, Rodrigo Otazu left home aged 18, to pursue his dream of traveling the world. Whilst living in Sydney #Australia, Rodrigo had a chance encounter with the fashion world, when he made an eye-catching pearl necklace for his mother, which subsequently featured on the pages of Vogue Magazine.
Inspired by his introduction to the fashion elite, Rodrigo continued to hone his craft as a jewelry designer whilst resident in Amsterdam. However, it wasn’t until he traveled to Paris that his career really took off., This is when the name Rodrigo Otazu became synonymous with haute couture jewelry of the highest standards.
This was driven by collaborating with some of the biggest fashion houses, the first of which was Christian #Lacroix, who featured Otazu’s #jewellery in his fashion show. This presented him with an opportunity for his creations to shine on the Catwalk in one of the world’s most eminent fashion capitals.
Further collaborations with Alexander #McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and talented Dutch duo Viktor&Rolf followed becoming the milestones in Otazu’s glittering career that saw his designs catapulted onto the world stage and highly sought after by celebrities and fashionistas alike.
Rodrigo launched his own brand under the name ‘Otazu Bijoux’, after perfecting his own signature style. He created deluxe Pret-a-porter fashion Jewellery in Sterling Silver and Diamond, some of which were unique one-off designs. Collections were introduced shortly after the launch of Otazu’s brand. His partnership with Atelier Swarovski resulted in successful shows entitled ‘Runway Rock’ for Nadja Swarovski in London, New York and Paris. The collection debuted in Collette Paris, and sold in other exclusive stores around the world, cementing a partnership with Swarovski Crystal that has spanned 15 years. after that Rodrigo found his new brand Rodrigo New York
Following the success of this critically acclaimed collection, Rodrigo pushed the boundaries of design, by creating ground breaking limited edition crystal pieces for the home, which included lamps.
Rodrigo’s designs have featured in spectacular fashion shows, in some of the world’s most unique locations, and enthralled international audiences whilst being modeled by industry elite’s including Naomi Campell, Erin O’Connor and #LilyCole.
Otazu’s glittering career is awash with a plethora that include: award-winning chandelier designs for a Hotel and Night Club in Dubai, a Wine Bar in the Netherlands and a specially created diamond piece in association with De Beers for Kylie Minogue, crystal encrusted costumes for leading musicians: Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, Madonna and Lady #Gaga amongst others are also amongst Otazu’s achievements.
Having developed a reputation for adding another dimension to the work of established designers, such as: Rifat Ozbek, Emanuel Ungaro and Thierry Mugler, Rodrigo has started to experiment with new touch technology, in a quest to improve and innovate new creations that make a powerful statement. It is this quality, coupled with creative flair and passion, that has seen Rodrigo Otazu established as a coveted global brand.
Even as a successful international designer, Rodrigo still finds time to support causes close to his heart. Whilst working alongside designers such as: Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and others, raising $30 million for Amfar, a charity at the forefront of the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Rodrigo now spends most of his time living between London and New York, where he has launched the ‘Forever Diamonds’ for De Beers, a range sold through some of the most exclusive shops in the USA. He has also won the best designer award in 2015 whilst working with DeBeer’s Forevermark.
